Google review removal: questions and answers

77 questions. Questions about removing, reporting and appealing Google reviews, from our Google pages. Google decides every report.

100% risk-free. You only pay for the reviews that come down.

FromGoogle review removal

Can Google reviews be removed?

Yes, but only when a review breaks Google's content policies. Google says you can report any review, but only those that violate its policies are eligible for removal. The policies cover fake engagement, conflicts of interest, off-topic content, personal information, harassment, offensive content and advertising. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Can a business delete a Google review?

No. A Business Profile has no delete button for a review someone else wrote, and only the writer can delete their own review. What a business can do is report it. Google removes a reported review when it breaks a content policy, and that report is the route we use for every removal. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Can you remove a negative Google review?

Yes, when it breaks a Google policy. Being negative is not a breach. Google says negative reviews are not always a sign of poor service. A negative review comes down when it is fake, written by a rival or former staff, off-topic, abusive, or holds personal details or an advert. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

How do I report a Google review?

From your Business Profile, select Read reviews, then Report next to the review, then the reason. You can also use Google's Reviews Management Tool, which shows the status of each report afterwards. Both routes are free and both are described on Google's report page.

Can I pay Google to remove a bad review?

No. Google has no paid removal route. Its help page says it does not get involved in conflict between businesses and customers, and it removes only reviews that break its policies. Buying Google Ads or any other Google product changes nothing. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

How long does Google take to decide on a reported review?

Google says review evaluation typically takes several days. It gives no fixed number. You can check each report in the Reviews Management Tool, where it shows as pending, reviewed with no violation found, or escalated after an appeal. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

What if Google says the review does not break its policies?

You get one appeal per review. Google's tool lets you select up to 10 reviews at a time and fill in an appeal form, and it emails you the result. If the appeal fails, the review stays. That is why the appeal needs new facts and the right policy, not the same report again. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Will Google remove a review because it is false?

Not for that reason alone. Google will not referee a dispute about what happened. Some false reviews do break a policy. One example is a review not based on a real experience. Another is an unsubstantiated allegation of criminal wrongdoing, which Google lists under offensive content. Source: Prohibited and restricted content.

Can I report a review because I cannot find the customer in my records?

You can report it, but a missing record proves little by itself. Google's fake engagement policy covers content that is not based on a real experience. A report is stronger with facts Google can check. Examples are the same text on several profiles, a burst of new accounts, or a service named that you do not offer.

Do removed Google reviews come back?

Google says reviews removed for policy violations are not restored. There is one exception to know about. The reviewer can appeal a removal once, and Google restores content when it finds the removal was a mistake. A report built on the policy's own wording is the best protection against that.

How much will my star rating go up?

Google's score is a plain average of all published ratings, so the sum is simple. A profile with 200 ratings and a 4.1 average that loses twelve 1-star reviews moves to about 4.3. Google says an updated score can take up to 2 weeks to show. We give you the sum for your own profile after the audit.

Is there any risk to my Business Profile?

Reporting a review that breaks a policy carries no penalty that Google publishes. The risk sits elsewhere. Google restricts profiles that buy, fake or pay for reviews: it can block new reviews, unpublish existing ones and show a warning. We never write, buy or arrange reviews, and we never offer a reviewer anything.

Can I offer a refund if the customer deletes their Google review?

No. Google bars offering payment, discounts or free goods in exchange for the revision or removal of a negative review. It treats the result as fake and misleading content. The FTC also named this practice in its NextMed case. Sources: Google's policy and the FTC's NextMed release.

Can I ask a happy customer for a Google review?

Yes, as long as you ask everyone the same way and offer nothing. Google allows a business to ask for reviews that reflect a genuine experience. It bars incentives, asking only happy customers, and asking for specific content. Source: Prohibited and restricted content.

A reviewer named our doctor. Does that break the personal information policy?

Usually not. Google allows the name of a public-facing professional who does business under their name, and it lists doctors first. A full name with a home address, a phone number or medical details about another person is different, and it can be reported. Source: Prohibited and restricted content.

Someone is demanding money to take down a wave of 1-star reviews. What do we do?

Do not pay and do not reply. Google treats this as an extortion scam and has a separate report form for it. Keep screenshots of every message with dates and contact details, and the links to the reviews. Source: Report negative review extortion scams.

We sell online only. Do we even have Google reviews?

Maybe not. Google reviews sit on a Business Profile, and Google does not allow profiles for online-only businesses. Many health brands have one anyway, for a clinic, a pharmacy or an office that serves customers. If you have none, the stars next to your ads come from store ratings, which draw on sources such as Trustpilot.

Does Google tell the reviewer who reported them?

Google's pages do not say that it does. They say a contributor may be told what was removed, why, and what they can do next, which includes one appeal. Source: Removed and rejected content.

Can a review be removed for breaking the law rather than a policy?

Sometimes. Google has a separate legal route for content that breaks local law, such as copyright or a court order. It runs through a legal form, not the report button. Source: Legal Removals. We flag these cases in the audit and tell you when a lawyer is the right next step.

Do you also reply to reviews for us?

No. We draft nothing in your voice on the profile. For reviews that stay, the audit says so, and our guide to replying without exposing patient information covers what a health brand can safely say. Google checks replies against its policies too.

Do the same packs cover Trustpilot reviews?

Yes. A pack counts confirmed removals, whichever platform they come from. A 50-removal pack can hold 30 Trustpilot reviews and 20 Google reviews. The price per removal is the same. See the Trustpilot side of the work.

What does a Google review company do for a business?

A Google review company that removes reviews reads your profile against Google's policies, reports the reviews that break one, with evidence, and uses the one appeal when it can. It cannot delete a review or buy a removal. Some firms that call themselves a Google review company sell reviews instead, which breaks Google's fake engagement policy. We only remove, and we bill per review that comes down.

Will every review you report come down?

No. Some reports fail, and some appeals fail after them. You never pay for a review that stays up. The audit is there to keep weak cases out. We report a review only when we can point to the policy it breaks and the words or facts that show it.

FromGoogle reviews

Where should a business with a Google review problem start?

With why Google keeps most 1-star reviews. It sets out what Google will not remove, in Google's own words. Then read how to remove a fake Google review before anyone presses the report button.

Is there one page with all of Google's review rules?

Google's list is its Prohibited and restricted content page. Our policy-by-policy section has one page per rule, each quoting the source and showing what evidence a report needs.

FromGoogle review removal appeals

How do I dispute a Google review?

Report it first, from your Business Profile or the Reviews Management Tool. If Google replies that it found no policy violation, open the tool, choose to check reviews you reported, select 'Appeal eligible reviews' and fill in the form. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

How many times can I appeal a Google review?

Once. Google calls it a one-time appeal. After that, the review has no further route through the tool, so the appeal has to carry your full case.

How long does a Google review appeal take?

Google gives no time for appeals. For first reports it says evaluation typically takes several days. You are told the result by email, at the address of the account that manages the profile.

Can I appeal before Google has decided on my report?

No. A review becomes eligible for appeal after Google has evaluated the report and found no policy violation. While the status is 'Decision pending', wait.

Can the reviewer appeal if their review is removed?

Yes. Google lets a contributor appeal a content removal once, and restores content it finds was removed in error. Source: Appeal Maps user-generated content policy enforcement actions.

What if the appeal fails?

The review stays. What is left is a public reply, a legal route if the content breaks the law, and the slow work of earning more reviews from real customers without incentives. Reporting the same review again is not a route Google describes.

FromWhy Google keeps most 1-star reviews

Can you remove bad reviews from Google?

Only if they break a Google content policy. A review that is negative, harsh or one-sided stays. A review that is fake, off-topic, abusive, an advert or written by someone with a conflict of interest can be reported and removed. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Can a business delete Google reviews?

No. A business has no delete button. It can report a review, and Google removes the review if it breaks a policy. The person who wrote the review can delete or edit it.

Can Google delete reviews by itself?

Yes. Google's automated systems remove reviews they identify as spam, with no report from anyone. Google says the system may sometimes remove legitimate reviews by mistake. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Can you pay Google to remove bad reviews?

No. There is no paid route. Google removes a review when it breaks a policy, and buying ads or other Google products changes nothing.

Does Google publish how many reports succeed?

We have not found a success rate for business reports on any Google page, so we do not print one. The title of this guide follows from the rule itself: most 1-star reviews are real complaints, and Google keeps real complaints.

Is it worth reporting a review that might break a policy?

Yes, if you can name the policy and point to the words or facts. Each review gets one report and one appeal. Our free audit sorts a profile into reviews worth reporting and reviews that are not.

FromGoogle vs Trustpilot review removal

Is it easier to remove a review from Google or from Trustpilot?

Neither platform publishes a success rate, so nobody can answer that with a number. Google's process has fewer steps: no required request to the reviewer first, and a stated evaluation time of several days. Trustpilot's has more steps and more published detail about each one.

Do Google and Trustpilot remove the same kinds of reviews?

Mostly. Both remove fake reviews, adverts, abuse, other people's personal information and reviews about the wrong business. Google also names conflicts of interest and off-topic commentary as their own policies. Trustpilot folds those into 'not based on a genuine experience' and 'advertising or promotional'.

Can flagging too much get a business in trouble on Google?

Trustpilot publishes a misuse policy for its flagging tool, with penalties up to a public Consumer Warning. We found no matching rule on Google's pages for a business that reports too many reviews. Google's published penalties are for fake and paid reviews.

Do removed reviews come back?

They can on both. Trustpilot moves reviews offline and can restore one if the reviewer supplies documents or edits it. Google lets a reviewer appeal a removal once and restores content removed in error. Sources: Trustpilot and Google.

Does one service cover both?

Ours does. A pack counts confirmed removals on either platform, at the same price. See our Google service and our Trustpilot service.

FromGoogle review disappeared

Why did my Google review disappear?

Google gives five reasons. It is still being checked, two profiles were merged, the writer's phone or software is old, it broke a policy, or Google turned reviews off for that profile. That last one can cover a whole business category. A sixth cause is not on Google's list: the writer deleted it. Source: About missing or delayed reviews.

My Google review is not showing. How long should I wait?

Google says the policy check can take a few days, and the same for reviews after two profiles are merged. Give it a week before you treat it as gone. A business owner's reply runs on its own clock, usually up to 10 minutes and sometimes up to 30 days.

Can a removed Google review be restored?

Not by the business. Google says reviews removed for policy violations will not be restored. The person who wrote the content can appeal the removal once, and Google says it restores content it finds was removed in error. Source: Appeal enforcement actions.

Why did my review count drop but my star rating stay the same?

The two update at different speeds. Google says the score is the average of all published ratings, and that an updated score can take up to 2 weeks to show. The count moves first.

Why did a long, fair review vanish over one line?

Because Google removes the whole post. Its policy overview says it generally removes full posts even if one part of it is in violation. The rating goes with the text. Source: Maps user-generated content policy.

Can I pay a customer to post their review again?

No. Google bars incentives in exchange for posting any review or revision or removal of a negative review. You may ask a customer to try again. You may not pay, discount or reward them for it. Source: Prohibited and restricted content.

FromReport a conflict of interest review

Can I report a Google review from a former employee?

Yes. Google's policy names current or former employment as a conflict of interest, and it makes no exception for someone who was also a customer. The report needs proof of the tie, such as a public work profile or a leaver's date. Source: Prohibited and restricted content.

How do I prove a reviewer is a competitor?

Use public facts. A rival's staff page, a company filing, a business listing with the same person's name, or the review's own words. Do not send patient records or order histories. Google needs the tie, not the customer's file.

How long does Google take to decide?

Google says review evaluation typically takes several days and names no limit. If the review comes down, the star rating follows later, and Google says an updated score can take up to 2 weeks.

What if Google says there is no policy violation?

You get one appeal. Put the evidence in it, because the first report carries almost none. Google also admits its systems can mistakenly remove legitimate reviews, so build the report so it still holds up if the writer appeals. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Can I ask my team to report the review as well?

No. Coordinated reporting is not a route to removal, and it puts your own staff into the same kind of relationship you are reporting. One clear report from the profile owner does more.

Does the rule apply to 5-star reviews too?

Yes. A glowing review from a member of staff, a contractor or a relative breaks the same rule. Stop that habit before you report anyone else for it.

FromHow to remove a Google review

How do I delete a Google review I wrote myself?

Open your own contributions in Google Maps, find the review, and use the menu to edit or delete it. Google's Manage customer reviews page covers the business side. Only the account that posted a review can delete it.

How long does Google take to remove a review?

Google says review evaluation typically takes several days. It publishes no deadline, and an appeal adds more time. After a removal, Google says an updated score can take up to 2 weeks to show.

Can I pay Google to remove bad reviews from my Google Business Profile?

No. Google's help pages describe one route only: report a review, and Google removes it if it breaks a policy. There is no price list and no paid queue. Spending on Google Ads changes nothing. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Will Google remove a review that is simply untrue?

Not for that reason on its own. Google says it does not get involved in conflict between businesses and customers. A false review comes down when it also breaks a policy, such as a review from someone who never used the business.

Can a service remove Google reviews for me?

A service can read your profile, match reviews to policies, build the evidence and file the reports and appeals. It cannot change Google's decision, and neither can anyone else. We bill only for reviews that come down.

Can you remove a Google review?

Not on your own. Only the person who wrote a review can delete it. Anyone else can report it, and Google takes it down only if it breaks a content policy. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

How do I delete a Google review as a business owner?

You cannot delete a review someone else wrote, and neither can a manager. You can report it from your Business Profile, and Google removes it only if it breaks a policy. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

How do I remove Google reviews in bulk?

There is no bulk report button. You report each review on its own, with its own reason. If Google keeps some, the one-time appeal lets you select up to 10 reviews at once. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

FromCan you delete Google reviews?

Can you delete Google reviews posted by others?

Not directly, whoever you are. Only the account that posted a review can delete it, and Google can remove it for a policy breach. Everything else is a report, and Google decides the outcome.

How do I delete a Google review I wrote?

Open your contributions in Google Maps, find the review and use the menu to edit or delete it. Google's Manage customer reviews page covers the business side of the same system.

Can you pay to have Google reviews deleted?

No. Google publishes no paid removal route, no priority queue and no fee. Anyone offering an inside contact at Google is selling something Google does not document. Our guide to removal scams lists the other warning signs.

How long before my star rating changes after a review is deleted?

Google says the review score is the average of all published ratings, and that it may take up to 2 weeks for an updated score to show. The review count usually moves before the average does. Source: Understand review scores.

If Google deletes a review, can it come back?

Google says reviews removed for policy violations will not be restored. The one exception is the writer's own appeal: Google allows one, and says it restores content it finds was removed in error. Source: Appeal enforcement actions.

FromHow to report a Google review

How do you report a Google review?

From your Business Profile: select Read reviews, select Report next to the review, choose the reason and select Send report. Anyone can also report a review from Google Maps through the menu on the review itself. Sources: Report inappropriate reviews and Report or Fix Content.

How long does Google take to review a report?

Google says review evaluation typically takes several days, and it gives no deadline. Reporting the same review again does not speed it up. If the review is removed, Google says an updated star rating can take up to 2 weeks to show. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

What are the report statuses in the Reviews management tool?

Google lists three: "Decision pending", "Report reviewed - no policy violation", and "Escalated - check your email for updates". Watch the inbox of the account that manages the profile. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

Can I report a review just because it is unfair or untrue?

No. Google says not to report a review because you disagree with it or dislike it, and that it does not get involved in conflict between businesses and customers. A review comes down when it breaks a policy, not when it is wrong. Source: Report inappropriate reviews.

What happens if Google says there is no policy violation?

You get one appeal, and you can select up to 10 reviews. Put the evidence in it, because the first report carries almost none. Google says content removals can only be appealed once. Sources: Report inappropriate reviews and Appeal policy enforcement actions.

Should I ask my staff to report the review too?

No. A pile of reports from staff accounts is not stronger than one clear report from the owner. It also puts your own team into a conflict of interest on the profile. Report once, name the policy, and appeal once if you need to.

FromConflict of interest

Can a former employee review us as a patient?

Google's policy names former employment as a conflict of interest and makes no exception for it. A review that draws on their time as staff can be reported. The evidence is proof of the employment, such as a public work profile.

Is a review from a competitor's customer a conflict of interest?

No. The conflict belongs to the writer. A rival's owner, staff or family have one. A patient who switched to a rival and prefers them does not.

Do our own staff break this rule when they review us?

Yes. Employment is the first conflict Google lists, and it cuts both ways. Remove the habit before you report anyone else for it.
