Trustpilot invited vs organic reviews
Every Trustpilot review carries a label that shows how it was collected. The label does not change the TrustScore, but it does change what you can flag, what counts toward Google's store ratings, and what readers are told about your profile. We check the label on every review before we flag it. You pay per removal.

Short answer
Trustpilot labels each service review as Verified, Invited, Redirected or Unprompted, based on how it was collected. Automatic invitation tools produce Verified reviews. Manual invitations produce Invited reviews. Reviews written without an invitation are Unprompted. The label does not change the TrustScore. It does change two things: invited customers' reviews cannot be flagged as not genuine, and only some labels count toward Google's store ratings.
Key facts
Trustpilot uses four service review labels: Verified, Invited, Redirected and Unprompted review.
The TrustScore calculation does not distinguish between verified, invited or unprompted reviews.

A business cannot flag a review as not based on a genuine experience if it invited that customer to review.

Reviews from automatic invitations and invitation links count toward Google's store ratings. Organic reviews and basic profile links do not.

The four labels
| Label | What it means | How it is produced |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | The review is tied to a transaction, or Trustpilot has seen documents that show a genuine experience | Automatic invitation tools, or a documentation check by the Content Integrity Team |
| Invited | The business asked the customer to review it through a Trustpilot invitation method | Manual file uploads, Business Generated Links, the Invitation Link API, the in-app review collector |
| Redirected | The reviewer followed a link on the business's website to its Trustpilot profile | Business domain links |
| Unprompted review | No direct invitation tied to a transaction | Organic reviews, basic links, Unique Links, the Review Collector widget |

People often say "organic" for reviews nobody asked for. Trustpilot's own word on the profile is "Unprompted".
Which invitation method gives which label
Trustpilot's invitation methods article sets out the mapping.
| Collection method | Automated? | Label |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic Feedback Service | Yes | Verified |
| Payment, CRM and ecommerce integrations | Yes | Verified |
| API invitations | Yes | Verified |
| API invitation links | No | Invited |
| Business Generated Links | No | Invited |
| Manual file upload | No | Invited |
| Embedded review form | No | Invited |
| Basic link to your profile | No | Unprompted review |
| Review Collector widget | No | Unprompted review |
Trustpilot says automated invitations link each review to a transaction, provide an audit trail, and produce the Verified label, which it calls one of the strongest trust signals.
What the label does not change
The TrustScore. Trustpilot is explicit: the calculation does not distinguish between verified, invited and unprompted reviews. Paying for a plan does not change it either.
Moderation. Trustpilot says paying for tools does not affect how reviews are moderated or which reviews are shown.
What the label does change
What you can flag
If you invited the customer, you cannot flag their review as not based on a genuine experience. You vouched for the transaction when you sent the invitation. The other four flagging reasons still apply.
This matters for removal work. On a profile made up mostly of Verified and Invited reviews, the genuine experience route is closed for most reviews. What remains is content: personal information, advertising, harmful content and wrong-business reviews.
Google's store ratings
Trustpilot's label key shows which reviews count toward Google's store ratings. Verified and Invited reviews from Trustpilot's invitation methods count. Redirected reviews, Unprompted reviews and reviews verified later by the Content Integrity Team do not.
What readers are told about you
Trustpilot shows how each business uses the platform, including whether it invites customers. Profiles that do not invite carry a notice. The wording we saw on September 19, 2026 was: "No recent history of asking for reviews. This company hasn't invited customers recently, so reviews may not be representative."
In our September 2026 sample of 18 supplement brands, seven carried that notice, and four of those seven had 1-star shares above 50%. See the supplements page.
Why uninvited profiles skew negative
A customer with a problem goes looking for a place to say so. A satisfied customer of a hair loss or weight-loss brand rarely does, and often would prefer not to post about it at all. Without invitations, the unprompted reviews you get are mostly complaints.
The Spiegel Research Center found the same pattern in retail: verified buyers give more 4-star and 5-star ratings than anonymous reviewers, who give more 1-star and 2-star ratings. Source: How Online Reviews Influence Sales.
This is the honest way to move a score. Invite every real customer, in the same neutral way, at the same point. Our guide to Trustpilot's invitation rules covers what is allowed.
What it means for a removal project
- Read the labels first. The mix of labels tells you which flagging routes are open.
- Unprompted 1-star reviews are not automatically fake. Trustpilot lets anyone with a genuine experience review, with or without a purchase.
- Start invitations alongside removal. Removal takes out what should not be there. Invitations bring in what is missing. Our guide to how TrustScore is calculated explains why recent invited reviews move the score most.
The free audit reads the labels on your profile and tells you which routes are open for each review. The full process is on the main Trustpilot review removal page.
