Review Rule Checker extension: privacy policy

The Review Rule Checker by Remove One Star is a browser extension that checks review text against Trustpilot's and Google's published rules. This policy covers the extension only. The website has its own privacy policy.

What the extension collects

Nothing. It does not collect, store or send any personal information, browsing history, review text or usage data. There are no analytics, no cookies, no identifiers and no accounts.

What it reads, and where that goes

• On a Trustpilot review page, it reads the text of the reviews that are on the page, as they come into view. It checks each one on your computer and adds a small badge under any review that may break a rule. The text never leaves your browser.
• When you choose "Check this review text" from the right-click menu, it opens its own window with the text you selected and checks it there. The text is not saved or sent.
• In the toolbar window, it checks text you paste. Again, on your computer only.

Network

The extension makes no network requests of its own. Its code is all inside the extension package, and its content security policy blocks connections from its own pages. The badges and links point to pages on removeonestar.com, which load only if you click them.

Permissions, and why

• activeTab: to work on the tab you are using when you click the extension.
• contextMenus: to add "Check this review text" to the right-click menu.
• Access to trustpilot.com: to add badges to Trustpilot review pages. It has no access to any other site.

Heuristic, not a decision

The checks are a keyword heuristic. A badge says a review may break a rule, and why. Trustpilot and Google decide every report.
